Frequently Asked Questions
Fergus Veterinary Hospital
How do I become a new client?
Fill out our New Client Request form and we’ll be in touch within one business day to set up your file and book your first visit. We’re currently accepting new patients from Fergus and the surrounding area.
Do I need the app to book an appointment?
Not at all. New clients can request an appointment through our website form or by calling (519) 787-2000. Once you’re registered with us, we’ll send you an invite to the PetCare app so you can book, view records, and request refills anytime.
Why can’t I log into the app yet?
The PetCare app is connected to the email address and phone number we have on file, so it only works once you’re registered as a client. If you’ve just joined us and can’t get in, give us a call at (519) 787-2000 and we’ll sort it out.
What services do you offer?
We provide comprehensive veterinary care, including preventive medicine, wellness exams, vaccinations, dentistry and surgery, diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and urgent care. We offer personalized treatment plans tailored to your pet’s individual needs.
Are you independently owned?
Yes! Fergus Veterinary Hospital is proudly locally owned and operated. We are not part of a corporate chain — our focus is on community, connection, and compassionate care for every patient.
How often should my pet have a check-up?
We recommend annual wellness exams for most adult pets and more frequent visits for puppies, kittens, and senior animals. Regular check-ups help us detect issues early and help keep your pet healthy year-round.
Do you see emergencies or urgent cases?
Yes, we accommodate urgent care appointments during our regular business hours. If you have an emergency after hours, we’ll guide you to the nearest 24-hour emergency hospital.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
To help us provide the most thorough care, please bring any previous medical records, your pet’s vaccination history, a list of medications or supplements your pet is taking, and a fresh stool sample, if possible.
Do you offer payment plans or financing?
We understand that veterinary care is an important investment. We do not offer payment plans. We accept all major payment methods and partner with financing options like Scratchpay or Petcard (if applicable). Estimates are always provided before treatment so you can make informed decisions.
How do I know if my pet needs to see a vet?
If your pet is showing changes in appetite, energy level, behaviour, or bathroom habits, seems in discomfort or distress — or if something just seems “off” — it’s best to book an appointment. You know your pet best, and early evaluation often prevents more serious issues.
Do you offer surgery?
Yes! We provide complete surgical services, including spays, neuters, mass removals, dental cleanings and extractions, and more. All procedures are performed with modern anesthesia and advanced monitoring, with a focus on comfort and safety.
Can you fill my pet's prescriptions or provide refills?
Yes. We have an in-clinic pharmacy and can also provide written or electronic prescriptions.
What makes your clinic different?
We’re a community-based, independent practice built on genuine relationships. You’ll always see familiar faces, receive personalized care, and experience a calm, welcoming environment — never rushed or corporate.
